Golden Week in Tokyo

May 10, 2010

Spent 5 days in Tokyo for Golden Week.  Here are some pictures.

Senso-ji in Asakusa.

The crossing in front of Shibuya Station.  More distracting than the mob of people this intersection is famous for was the advertising overlooking them… this spot was accompanied by sound, too.  It’s an ad for a cell phone company.  Look it up on youtube– “docomo darth vader.”

Too drunk to pee.  I’m still getting used to the fact that bars keep serving till people stop drinking– even if the sun is coming up.

The coolest guys in Tokyo.  This is three of a group of about six people (one was a woman) dancing to rockabilly in Yoyogi Park, near Harajuku Station, on a Sunday afternoon.  There were two other groups of dancers, each group dressed in a different ‘uniform.’   One guy had a pompadour that I swear was a foot tall, but the memory card I was using is a bastard and I lost the shot.

Chasing bubbles in Shinjuku Gyoen Park.

A drunk building does something funny.  The thing in the background is the Asahi Breweries Headquarters building.

Tokyo Sky Tree Tower, under construction.  It’s already obscenely huge, but it’s supposed to be 634 m when it’s finished.

I can’t resist putting up one more, as a parting gift.  After spending a night in a ‘hot’ club in Shibuya where it seemed no one knew how to dance, these guys were a breath of fresh air.  Godspeed you!
